October 1, 2006 Children's Sabbath

The third weekend of October each year, congregations around the country stand up and speak for those whose who can't speak out for themselves; our children, with the National Observance of Children's Sabbath. The weekend is endorsed by more than 200 denominations and religous organizations, uniting people of many faiths to act for children and families through prayer, education, and service. September 24, 2006 The Struggle for a Living Wage

Join us as we welcome Rev. Dr. Paul Sherry of the Let Justice Roll Living Wage Campaign to Considering Faith. We will discuss the current challenges of the working poor and how we can work torawards a just living wage. Later in the hour we will be joine by Matt Gladue of Twin Cities Religion and Labor Network, to hear a local perspecitve. According to a Pew Research Center Study done April of this year, 83% of Americans support raising the federal minimum wage from its current $5.15 to $7.15. We will examine why we haven't raised the federal minimum wage in over nine years, and what people are doing to change it.

September 17, 2006 Save Darfur

The crisis for Darfur has been described as genocide, humanitarian crisis, and all-out war. No matter how one names the conflict in Darfur, one thing is clear- we must act to stop it. In the words of George W. Bush said, " Not on my Watch." This crisis cannot be allowed to escalate further. We will be joined by Rabbi Glaser from Temple Israel to discuss how rape, murder, and destruction have become commonplace in Darfur and what is being done to stop this cycle of violence.

Chaplain (Major) John Morris will join us to discuss the challenges veterans face when returning home. Readjustment from being a warrior in conflict to back at home as a citizen soldier is a hard path to navigate, Chaplain Morris will discuss these obstacles and talk about how our communities can prepare to welcome soldiers home, highlighting the upcoming Veteran's Summit held to address the needs of returning combat veterans and their families.
