October 29, 2006 Faithful to the Environment

The world is changing, not in that abstract we are always changing manner but, in the way our environment behaves. At our very best, we understand our choices and the impact those choices have on the environment. Faith communities have taken the call of helping us make better choices and undoing those that have created global warming. We welcome Mary Hess, Associate Professor of Educational Leadership at Luther Seminary and Parishoner of Immaculate Heart of Mary in St. Paul; and Fr. Patrick Foley of Church of St. Gerard in Brooklyn Park. In Minnesota our faith communities have become mobilized by these agents of change:
Congregations Caring for Creation
Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis Office of Social Justice

October 15, 2006 Faith Communities and Elections

How do we define our civic responsibility as people of faith? Is there a moral/ethical obligation for our civic engagement? Where is the division of church and state in elections? Where can we talk about it?

As we gear up for elections, we will discuss what is the realationship between our faith communities and elelctions.

Joining us this week will be Rev. David Everett and Jody McCardle of the Interfaith Participation Project (IPP), lead by the Joint Religious Legislative Coalition.
The IPP's goal is to strengthen the integrity and increase the participation and responsiveness of our democracy. Working with the Minnesota State Baptist Convention and the Minneapolis Urban League, the IPP is focusing on voter registration and turnout in the 10 historically lowest voter turnout precincts. Join us in talking about why should or shoudn't congregations be invovled in politics and elections. What boundaries exist for congregations wanting to be involved? What moral obligations come with people of faith as they enter the realm of elections?

October 8, 2006 Feminist Faith

Joining us are Claire Bischoff and Rachel Gaffron, editors of My Red Couch and Other Stories on Seeking a Feminist Faith. We will discuss the delicate balance women search for in celebrating their feminism and their faith. The tensions arise for many, and uniquely with the young women today; such as Claire and Rachel. We will also welcome back Rev. Peg Chemberlin as our host, who will share these responsibilities with Rev. Chris Morton.
