April 1, 2007 March in Minnesota

The show today we will check in with three organizations working for the common good in Minnesota that have had exciting events in March. First off we'll hear from Sue Kainz, Campaign Coordinator of the Minnesota FoodShare March Campaign that just wrapped up. She'll tell us how well the campaign's 25th year went.
Then Brian Rusche of the Joint Religious Legislative Coalition, will join us to talk about his organization's Day on the Hill and what's happening in Minnesota's State Legislature these days. And finally Christina Gillette of Ready4K will join us to talk about the Voices for Children Advocacy day that happened last Thursday and she will share with us the legislation affecting children in our state.

March 25th, Welcome the Stranger

No matter how you stand, the conversation is in dire need- Immigration Reform. In Worthington, MN and across the U.S. after the Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids of meatpacking plants last December, communities were left in need and in shambles. As parents were detained in Iowa or South Dakota children were left at home alone without food or word about when or if they'd see their family again. The faith community of Worthington, such as Westminister Presbyterian Church and Manna Food Shelf with Pastor and our guest Jim Krapf, in collaboration with many faith partners throughout the state including Minnesota Council of Churches, worked to respond to the immediate needs of the families affected by the raids. Meanwhile lawyers such as our guest, John Keller of the Immigrant Law Center were working to help detained immigrants navigate the complicated immigration legal system.

March 18, 2007 Joint Religious Legislative Day on the Hill

The Joint Religious Legislative Coalition mobilizes religious communities to influence public policy in Minnesota as guided by their sponsoring organizations: Minnesota Catholic Conference, Jewish Community Relations Council, Minnesota Council of Churches, and the Islamic Center of Minnesota. Each year people of faith from across the state gather at the in St. Paul to learn about current issues of legislation working for the common good and then visit with their legislators to communicate their concern for the well being of the people of Minnesota and advocate for them to support this legislation. Joining us in our show on JRLC's Day on the Hill is Chris Leifeld of the Minnesota Catholic Conference; one of JRLC's 4 sponsors.
