April 29 —- A Center for Religious Inquiry —- Paul Strickland, Executive Director

A Center for Religious Inquiry™ provides an opportunity for those who are eager to explore spiritual life and practice across traditions; for those who seek to rediscover and recover community in our lives. This Center is grounded in the belief that all religions together have equal value and an equal claim on the truth.

Our mission is to create a safe welcoming place for religious seekers, of any background or affiliation, to experience a deeper understanding of unity through inquiry, dialogue, study and reflection.

The Center is one of three Centers for Religious Inquiry:

St Bartholomews Church - New York
Wilshire Boulevard Temple - Los Angeles

April 22, 2007 —- Jewish Community Relations Council ——- Steven Hunegs, Executive Director

The Jewish Community Relations Council began one year before the territory known as Minnesota achieved statehood with the establishment of the Mount Zion Hebrew Association. Currently, there are some 50,000 Jews living in the Minneapolis-St. Paul Metro Area.

JCRC serves as the designated public affairs voice of the Jewish community to elected officials, the media, and other religious, racial and ethnic groups. JCRC is the only local agency fighting anti-Semitism, advocating for Israel, safeguarding religious freedom, and engaging in community service and social action advocacy for tikkun olam ("repairing the world").

April 15, 2007 - Legislative Update AND Stairstep Initiative

The Stairstep Initiative began in August 1991 as an attempt to understand the components and processes required to rebuild a viable value-based community among African Americans and then to develop replicable models and provocative strategies to move toward the community goal.

Alfred Babbington-Johnson is the founder, President & CEO of The Stairstep Initiative Companies. Stairstep is creating a model to bring together African Americans of all income and resource levels in the Twin Cities metropolitan area to participate in the articulation of community values, and in the operation of businesses consistent with those values. He serves as Board Chair & CEO of Siyeza, Inc., a frozen food manufacturing company located in the inner city of Minneapolis, of which Stairstep, Inc. has majority ownership.

JRLC's Power of 1,000 Voices Day on The Hill was a huge success. Brian Rusche will join us to provide a highlight on the 2007 Minnesota Legislative Session so far, and update us on legislation being closely monitored: 1) Minimum Wage; 2) Children's Health Security Act; and 3) Housing Solutions Act.
