July 29 - Mark Peterson - Lutheran Social Services

The groundbreaking for Lutheran Social Services recently occurred on July 20th and to learn more
about what this means and what they offer, we'll be talking with Mark Peterson, President and CEO of the Luteran Social Service of Minnesota. Prior to joining Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota, Peterson was vice president of Lutheran Social Services of Michigan where he was responsible for services and facilities for developmentally disabled and older persons. He earlier held a management position with Lutheran Social Services of Illinois. Peterson has recently served as chair of the Board of Directors of Behavioral Healthcare Providers, chair of the Bishop Election Committee for the Minneapolis Area Synod of the ELCA, chair of the Task Force on Long Term Care of the Minnesota Coalition on Health, and has served on various faith-based and governmental task forces with respect to human service delivery issues.

July 22 - Eco-Justice - Cassandra Carmichael

Next week, Cassandra Carmichael, the eco-justice program director for the National Council of Churches, where she helps serve the environmental ministries of NCC's 36 member denominations, which represent 120,000 churches nationwide. We’re talking about the environment and the environmental movement has to the faith community. We’ll be talking about eco-justice, what this means, and how we can attempt to achieve it.

Cassandra Carmichael is the eco-justice program director for the National Council of Churches where she helps serve the environmental ministries of the NCCís 36 member denominations, which represent 120,000 churches nationwide. Previously, she was director of faith-based outreach at the Center for a New American Dream, where she worked to encourage communities of faith to take action to conserve resources and protect the natural environment. Cassandra has worked as an environmental consultant with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and A Rocha USA, and was a teacher educator, university instructor, and environmental education specialist at the University of Maryland - Baltimore County and the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point. Cassandra also is a member of the City of Annapolis (Maryland) Environmental Commission.

July 15 - Rev Dr James Forbes

This week, we'll be having Rev Dr James Forbes, Senior Minister Emeritus of the Riverside Church and President of the Healing of Nations Foudnation. Rev Forbes has been named one of the 12 "most effective preachers" in the English-speaking world by Newsweek magazine and is known in religious circles as the preacher's preacher.

On December 26, 2003, Dr. Forbes was featured on Bill Moyers’ “Speaking to Power” where he shared his prophetic principles, which have become part of the Mobilization 2004 initiative at The Riverside Church. Also in 2004, Dr. Forbes keynoted most of the “Let Justice Roll” tour sponsored by the National Council of Churches of Christ which promoted the prophetic principles in 15-20 cities across the nation. In August 2004, Dr. Forbes addressed the Democratic National Convention. Make sure and tune in at 2pm on Sunday, July 15th to hear Rev Dr James Forbes on AM 950 Air America Minnesota.

July 8 - Health Care and Faith - Rev Eileen Lindner and Pat Peterson

With the increased debate of health care in the past couple weeks, this week on Considering Faith, we'll be talking with Rev Eileen Lindner from the National Council of Churches about a recent survey of heath care attitudes in religious communities. From there, we'll talk about health care as a larger issue. Who has health care? Why does it matter? We'll be talking with experts who know about the state of health care in Minnesota specifically.
