September 2 - Labor and Religion - Barb Kucera and Matt Gladue

This week on Considering Faith we're coming live from the State Fair and we're celebrating Labor Day Weekend by talking about the issue that brought us this weekend: labor. Labor is an important issue for all of us and we'll be talking about its connection to religion. We'll be talking about what's happening now in Minnesota in the labor movement and what the religious perspective is on these topics.

To talk about labor with us we will have Matt Gladue representing the Interfaith Workers Network, a religious-based that works to unite religious leaders, labor leaders, and workers to address economic disparities by demanding improved wages, benefits, and working conditions assuring that our community's economic abundance is shared by all. Also - we will have Barb Kucera, the editor of Workday Minnesota. Workday Minnesota is a labor-based magazine that informs and educates people on what's happening around the state on the labor issue.

How has our definitions of a 'just war' changed now that we're fighting a new enemy of terrorism? This week, we'll be speaking with Professor Bill Cavanaugh, an associate professor of Catholic studies at the University of St Thomas, to talk about war and the Catholic viewpoints on how it should be conducted.

August 19 - Hinduism in Academia - Professor Anant Rambachan

In June, St Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota hired a Hindu to be head of the Religion Department there. For the first time, this department was led by a non-Christian. This week, we'll be talking with Professor Rambachan about the controversy that followed his appointment and Hinduism in general and how he looks at education in academia.

Professor Rambachan has been very involved in Hinduism and developing interreligious dialogue between Christianity and Hinduism. He has participated in numerous consultations and meetings convened by national and international organizations concerned with interreligious issues. He has been very active in the dialogue programs of the World Council of Churches, and was Hindu guest and participant in the last three General Assemblies of the World Council of Churches in Vancouver, Canada, and Canberra, Australia and Harare, Zimbabwe.

August 12 - Journalism and Religion - Pam Miller

The former Faith and Values editor at the Star Tribune, Pam Miller, will be on the air with us this week to talk about how journalists look to cover religion. We'll be talking with Pam this week about journalism, what a story is, how does this connect to the idea of religion. Many reports have come out in recent months about how media coverage of religion often paints religious people in a way that skews right. How do you combat this perception? Also, What does journalism mean for religion? How is religion shown through the media? Also, how is this institution changing? Where will the concept of the newspaper be in the future?
