December 2 - Simplifying the Holidays - Rev Bruce Forbes & Gerald Iverson

From Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, until around Christmas, many of us are thinking a lot about the upcoming holidays. We want to show our loved ones how much we care about them, and we池e often told by advertising and the media that the best way to do that is the quantity of gifts we池e able to afford. However, is this really the best way to celebrate a time of tremendous meaning?

This week we値l be talking about how to reduce our consumerism during this time of the year to give us more time to reflect on the true meaning of the holiday season. We値l be talking to Rev Bruce Forbes, who is a professor at Morningside College, about the origins of Christmas and how it came to be what we know it as today. Then, we値l be joined by Gerald Iverson, from the organization Alternatives for Simpler Living to talk about what each one of us can do to increase the meaning during this holiday season.
