April 6 - Honoring the Legacy of Dr. King - Dr. Allan Boesak

In honor of the 40th anniversary of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we'll be welcoming Dr. Allan Boesak during his visit to the Twin Cities. Dr. Boesak is a renowned South African theologian, anti-apartheid activist, and speaker on the issue of reconciliation. At an early age Allan Boesak became convinced of his calling to the ministry of God, and his whole life has been shaped by that conviction. Dr. Boesak was a leader in the United Democratic Front and the African National Congress in the struggle against apartheid. He served as the president of the 80 million member World Alliance of Reformed Churches in the eighties. He is one of the originators of black liberation theology in South Africa and a scholar on the life and work of Dr. King. Dr. Boesak is a sought-after speaker and preacher, human rights activist, and consultant to churches and civic groups - and his role and rhetoric in the civil rights struggle have been likened to that of Dr. King.

March 30 - Interfaith Seder - Rabbi Amy Eilberg

When was the last time you participated in an interfaith Seder? Next weekend you have a rare opportunity to do just that. An interfaith Seder, the celebratory Passover meal, is being planned for the late afternoon and early evening of Sunday, April 6, at Beth Jacob Synagogue in Mendota Heights. This event is being sponsored by thirty area religious groups, and leaders from a wide range of faith traditions will lead those gathered - including the religious leader who originally came up with the idea for this historic gathering. Rabbi Amy Eilberg is an historic figure herself - as the first woman to have been ordained within the Conservative Movement of Judaism. Rabbi Amy Eilberg is dedicated to creating a more peaceful, loving world. She speaks to congregations here in the Twin Cities and around the country about issues of Jewish spirituality, compassionate listening, peace-making, and feminism. Eilberg is nationally known as a leader of the Jewish healing movement. This week Rabbi Eilberg will join host Reverend Peg Chemberlin in a discussion about the traditional context of interfaith worship and the social justice component of interfaith dialogue.
