REMEMBER: Considering Faith will be broadcasting live from the State Fair!

What better way to spend the last August afternoon than sitting outdoors, sipping honey lemonade... Join us at the AM950 stage on Randall Avenue just across from the Eco Experience building. AM950 has a lovely geodesic dome nestled between shade trees - and there's comfortable seating for our live audience. Join host Reverend Peg Chemberlin, Executive Director of the Minnesota Council of Churches for our live broadcast from the fairgrounds.
MICAH stands for Metropolitan Interfaith Council on Affordable Housing. MICAH Minneapolis is made up of congregations and organizations that want to increase the availability of affordable housing in the city - and also to preserve the housing that currently exists. Continuing our series on the current housing crisis, and how communities of faith are responding to people in need - we'll be joined by John Slade, organizer with MICAH.

This week we're broadcasting live from the Minnesota State Fair!!!

Join us at AM 950's geodesic dome stage on the fairgrounds at our usual time, 2:00 Sunday afternoon. The stage is nestled between lovely shade trees across from the Eco Experience Building on Randall. Bring your pail of cookies and honey lemonade, sit on our comfy lawn furniture, and bask in an hour of inspiring conversation.
We'll be joined by the Reverend Alan Loose from Lutheran Social Service, where he is the Director of Congregational Partnerships and Advocacy. Reverend Loose will update us on the work of Lutheran Social Service - the largest state-wide social service organization in Minnesota, working within the community since 1865. It could be said that our state fair may boast more Lutherans per square mile than any other state fair in the nation. Come celebrate our Minnesota heritage with Considering Faith at the State Fair.

August 17 - Greater Minnesota Housing Fund - Warren Hanson

These past weeks we've touched upon challenges resulting from the current housing crisis – part of that crisis being the wave of foreclosures spreading across the country. Much of our conversation has been about affordable housing here in the Twin Cities - and this week we'll also address housing needs throughout our state. One group responding to those needs is the The Greater Minnesota Housing Fund. The Fund was launched a dozen years ago in a joint effort of The McKnight Foundation and Blandin Foundation to address the lack of decent, affordable housing in Greater Minnesota. Projects supported by GMHF provide affordable housing options for working families of all kinds - from young people just getting started in life to parents working to support their children, to new immigrants and multi-generational households. This week we'll have the Director of the GMHF, Warren Hanson tell us about ways people of faith are supporting affordable housing all across Minnesota.

August 10 - Sheltering Arms and iCAN - Denise Mayotte and Laurie Beckman Yetzer

This year marks the 125th anniversary of Sheltering Arms. Since 1883, Sheltering Arms has been embracing and caring for Minnesota children. What began as one Episcopal woman’s commitment to the well-being of children, has evolved into The Sheltering Arms Foundation, a grant-making organization that supports programs benefiting Minnesota children and families. The Sheltering Arms Foundation's mission is to enhance the lives of children and help them reach their full potential, especially those experiencing barriers to success. As a grant-making organization, the Foundation supports programs benefiting our most vulnerable Minnesotans.
One of the organizations that Sheltering Arms steadfastly is iCAN - the Interfaith Children's Advocacy Network of the Joint Religious Legislative Coalition. iCAN organizes people of faith in Minnesota to advance socially just legislation in the areas of children's health care, child care and early education, and a healthy home environment. iCAN's mission is to be a passionate, faith-based voice for children, particularly those experiencing poverty and violence. This week host Peg Chemberlin will visit with Laurie Beckman Yetzer from iCAN, and Denise Mayotte, Director of Sheltering Arms.
